Evidence of Plan Review

View/Edit Details Goal Strengths/Progress Concerns What needs to be adjusted or done differently in order to accomplish the stated goal?
1. Reading — Increase reading proficiency in all grade levels by the end of 2007-2008. Target subpopulations are Low SES and LEP. 4sight has been given 4 times this year to students in grades 3-6. Results indicate that 59% of our students in grades 3-6 are at or above grade level in ELA. Constructed Response continues to be an area where students in grades 3-6 continue to demonstrate difficulty. Expository text is an area where students seem to have greater difficulty reading and understanding text. ELL students continue to demonstrate lower levels of proficiency in the area of ELA. Direct instruction and practice must be given to all students in order to be more proficent in writing constructed responses. Students need more exposure and practice reading expository text. Next year, the focus of staff development will be SIOP. This model will allow teachers to frame lessons to better meet the needs of the ELL students.
2. Writing — Increase writing proficency in all grade levels by the end of 2007-2008. Target subpopulations are Low SES and LEP. All certified staff attended a two-day staff development to be trained in Step-Up to Writing. Using Title I funds, all certified staff received all the Step-Up to Writing materials needed to implement the program across all curriculum areas. The writing scores at Alice Maxwell decreased from 55% of students scoring in the Meets or Exceeds categories to 37.% scoring in the Meets or Exceeds categories. More time will be spent by each classrom teacher focusing of the direct teacing of writing based on the analytic traits. If funds become available, all certified staff will be trained to score the State Analytic writing test.
