Hug High is an innovative community of small schools, expecting all to think, work, and act with excellence and integrity, preparing each student to graduate and become a productive member of society.
School Highlights
* In August, 2008, Hug became the first High School in Nevada State history to ever work its way OFF the NCLB "failing school" list. The four year history includes 2005-32 red cells, 2006-7 red cells, 2007 and 2008- NO red cells...fully making AYP by reducing the failure rate in every subgroup by at least 10% in each of the last two years. Unfortunately, in 2009, Hug received three red cells; IEP math achievement, LEP math achievement, and school-wide failure in math achievement due to the failure in IEP/LEP.
* Hug High School has created four small learning communities to increase rigor, relevance and improve relationships with all students.
* Comprehensive professional development plan implemented, allowing all staff time in: departments, Grade Level Planning Teams, Small School Groups, and whole staff meetings.
* Coalition of Essential Schools adopted as National school wide reform model.
* Expanded community partnerships with Harrah’s Casino.
* Hug is a NW Accredited school (2006-07).
* Implemented baseline curriculum for all students for college pathway. Math: 9th Algebra, 10th Geometry. Science: 9th Biology, 10th Chemistry. LA/Social Studies: Honors options in all core subject areas.
