What needs to be adjusted or done differently in order to accomplish the stated goal? |
|
1. Reading & Writing — Our goal is to increase student achievement in reading and the writing process. |
Many of our staff members have been trained in the Writing Traits. Our whole staff is focusing on vocabulary instruction. We have also implemented a school-wide daily, 45 minute intervention time where the teachers identify students strengths and weaknesses based on current assessments. Teachers also meet one hour a week in PLCs to discuss interventions and instruction. Many of our teachers are using Soar to Success for lower level students. |
Are our bubble students needs being met? Are teachers differentiating throughout all lessons, and not relying soley on intervention time. Are we appropriate meeting the needs of our special education/ELL students. Lack of time. Is there enough growth needed to make AYP on CRTs? |
Using the data to assess our bubble students' growth. Providing adequate training for differentiating all lessons throughout the year. Working closely with special education/ELL teachers to best meet the needs of our identified special education/ELL students. Look at eliminating one or two recesses per day inorder to increase instructional time. Implement Study Island to provide practice for the upcoming CRTs. |
|
2. Math — Our goal is to increase student achievement in math, with an emphasis on math computation and problem solving. |
Daily intervention time, which includes math instruction which is geared specifically to students' needs. Teaching Everyday Math with fidelity. Using the Everyday Math games in our computer lab. Monthly Math Nights, continued from last year. Identified our bottom quartile students-through strengths and weaknesses. Free after school tutoring program. |
We need a research based intervention program to support all levels of mathematics. Sierra Vista will lose our funding for our afterschool tutoring in the fall of 2009. We have a lack of mathematics manipulatives. Not enough differentiation going on in the classroom during math. |
Research effective math intervention programs. Discuss such programs with other Title I schools. Look at the possibility of working with Hug High School students to support students in math. Obtain as many math practicum students from UNR as possible. Look into Nevada Cooperative Extention. Apply for a 21st Century Grant for 2009/2010. Set aside Title money for more math manipulatives. Provide training for teachers to differentiate mathematics instruction. |
|
3. Parent Involvement — Our goal is to increase parental involvement throughout the entire school year, and not just at certain events; such as, Back to School Night and MultiCultural Night. |
Increased involvement in monthly Math Nights. Increased involvement in Morning Mug Meetings and Parent/Teacher conferences. Increased in daily volunteers. Implemented and will continue to provide Parent Reading Workshops. Dedicating an early release day to MALDEF support and Parent Involvement. |
Maintaining and increasing parental involvement. Not enough support at home for homework/projects. Second language issues. Getting our families to feel comfortable and confident enough to contact school to discuss issues/concerns. The economy. |
Continue with monthly math and literacy nights. Continue to have meaningful Morning Mug meetings. Implement parent involvement classes through MALDEF support, with the ultimate goal of having a PTA. Supporting home language with translating notes home, report cards, newsletters etc. Reaching out to our families to support difficulty with the economy. Encouraging attendance at local community events, for example, Future Hawks nights. |
