View/Edit Details Goal Strengths/Progress Concerns What needs to be adjusted or done differently in order to accomplish the stated goal?
1. Math — All students, especially those on individualized education plans, limited English proficient students, and Hispanic students will increase their proficiency in math. We met our goals for high school proficiency targets. We implemented Gateway Math program for seniors who wanted a 4th year of mathematics curriculum. The extended learning time proved very beneficial as did the peer tutoring program. We continue to be concerned with some of our subgroups, e.g., special education, Hispanic, and LEP. None at this time
2. Reading — All students, especially those with limited English proficiency and those on individualized education plans, will increase their proficiency in reading. Our staff worked to gain skills in differentiated instructional techniques to increase reading proficiency with special attention to IEP students. Reading comprehension and writing for proficiency tests was addressed in all the English classes. We need to continue to focus on IEP students' proficiency in literacy skills. None at this time
3. Freshman Failure — McQueen will reduce the number of retained students, especially freshmen. Our freshman showed increased homework completion and decreased failure rate. We will continue our successful Freshmen Academy. Our freshmen were enrolled in three academic areas (math, science, English) plus study skills. They also were enrolled in co-curricular or extracurricular programs to connect them to the school community. We will continue to expand and refine this program because of its success.
