Evidence of Plan Review

View/Edit Details Goal Strengths/Progress Concerns What needs to be adjusted or done differently in order to accomplish the stated goal?
1. Math — Improve proficiency in math among all students with a focus on all non proficient students with attention to ESL and special education students. Bi-Annual Review: Math teachers continue to offer lunch time tutoring, however, focus groups targeting students who show proficiency scores in the lower quartiles have also been implemented at lunch and after school to offer more teaching time. Some of these students are also enrolled in PLATO for further assistance in mathematics. Budget cutbacks may raise the student to teacher ratio, thus teacher to student time will be diluted. This can have severe impact on our students who need more teacher contact time. Further adjustments will be evaluated after the spring CRT scores are available.
2. ELA — Improve proficiency in ELA among all students with a focus on non proficient students and those who did not make AMAO. Bi-Annual Review: As Billinghurst does not have a ELA program one language art class was added to the curriculum to meet and work with these students on their reading proficiency. The teacher additionally monitors these students academic progress to try to trouble-shoot areas wherein a student might be struggling with other core subjects. It is important to keep the teacher to student ratio at a manageable number so that the teacher has the time to devote to each student and monitor their academic progress. None at this time.
3. Parent Involvement — To improve parental involvement at Billinghurst, we have a new position on the Parent Club at Billinghurst Middle School. The parent membership coordinator will focus on recruitment of new members for the parent club. Bi-Annual Review: Continue to get the names and phone numbers of new parent(s) enrolling their children at Billinghurst so that they may be invited to join the Parent Club activities in supporting the school. Parents are struggling with economic concerns and some have had a reduction in the time they can dedicate to school projects. Continue to encourage and invite new parents to attending the Parent Club activities, realizing that parent schedules will change as the economy (hopefully) improves.
