District Mission or Vision Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.

Washoe County School District will become a “world class school district” in which ALL students will acquire the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for student success.
School Mission or Vision Statement
Rainshadow Community Charter High School is dedicated to helping all students, regardless of interests, aspirations, or prior academic achievement to become enthusiastic learns through participation in field-based disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities. Rainshadow students will learn the value of the academic disciplines by applying them to achieve meaningful community goals. Rainshadow’s faculty, administration, and Board of Directors believe that students learn best when involved in activities that allow them to use the skills and knowledge they are learning to achieve real world ends. The school curriculum is interdisciplinary, thematic, and project based, with complementary focused course work in the core academic disciplines and elective courses to respond to student interests and needs.
School Highlights
Rainshadow has achieved an increasingly stable student population as students and parents increasingly understand our unique mission and purpose. Teacher and administrative turnover has been virtually eliminated, contributing to improved school climate, and the faculty is successfully implementing strategies to realize the Rainshadow mission statement and chartered curriculum. We have added a full-time advisor who works with curriculum, discipline, parents, and individual students. Our graduation rates continue to improve, and in 06-07 we will look forward to our first graduating class that includes students who have spent the full four years at Rainshadow. We are also continuing to refine our portfolio assessment system, including new grade level goals and contents for display portfolios. Teachers are increasingly involving students in community projects, including Adopt-A-Spot, Truckee River cleanup, Habitat for humanity, and numerous internships and volunteer experiences with nonprofit agencies.
